If you come from a country that requires a Visitor visa you must apply for
one a the Canadian Consulate or Embassy in your home country or the
country that you are visiting or residing in.
To make this application you are usually required to present:
- a letter of invitation from a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of
Canada inviting you to stay at their home during your visit,
- a written invitation to attend a special event in Canada if applicable,
- a letter from your employer confirming that you have a job to return to
after your vacation in Canada,
- sufficient funds in the bank to finance your vacation,
- a return airline ticket,
- a valid passport and the Consulate or Embassy's fee for processing your
visa. Present fee is $85, this fee may go up in price.
Even if you present all of the above documentation this does not guarantee
a visitor visa, you must be able to convince the Visa Officer at the Embassy
or Consulate that you will not remain in Canada permanently. If the Visa
Officer is not satisfied that your are a genuine visitor you may be refused a
Visitor Visa to Canada. If you do receive your Visitor visa, once you
present yourself at the Port of Entry to Canada you may be required to
prove, once again, to an Immigration Officer that your are a genuine visitor.
Therefore, the above mentioned requirements should be ready to show again
at the Canadian Port of Entry.
Visitors to Canada are usually permitted to stay in Canada for period of 6
months or a shorter period of time if the Officer at the Port of Entry specifies
a shorter period of time. However, this period is extendable from within
Canada.
